Classes Of Travel.

The Canrail Pass is issued in Economy class only (upgrades to Via 1 Business Class and sleeper accommodation can be done once in Canada for an additional charge).

Validities

The Canrail Pass is valid for 12 days of travel within a 30-day period. Up to 3 extra days can be added, either at the time of purchase or at any time once in Canada within the 30-days validity period.

The pass is valid for journeys on any VIA train, and on buses providing transfers between Moncton and Saint John (other bus journeys are not included, even if shown on VIA Rail timetable).

 Conditions.

The Canrail Pass does not guarantee a seat on a specific train service, and unlike most European passes passengers require a ticket to travel, as well as their pass. Seat reservations are free of charge, and recommended at peak times, they can be made at any Via rail station in Canada. Sleeping accommodation varies in cost according to the actual sleeper chosen, as per seats they can be booked at any VIA rail station in Canada. Please be aware that overnight journeys are counted as 2 days of the pass. Between 1st June and 15th October inclusive sleeping accommodation between Toronto and Vancouver, and points in between, can only be made within 21 days of departure. If travelling overnight and you do not wish to buy a sleeper supplement, your Canrail Pass travel is in a reclining seat, and VIA Rail provides you with a pillow and blanket.

As a Canrail Pass holder you are entitled to a seat in Economy or Comfort class. For a surcharge you can travel in first class accommodation, like Sleeper or VIA 1 for example. During the peak summer season it is also possible to upgrade to Silver and Blue class, available between Vancouver and Toronto, but this can only be arranged in the 21 days prior to departure.

A Canrail Pass can be issued a maximum of 6 months in advance of your travel date, but please note that a pass cannot be issued within 10 days of travel, in this case you should buy your pass once in Canada.

Passes once issued cannot be refunded, and refunds are not allowed on part-used passes. Please note that if any portion of your trip falls into a 'peak' period, the peak rates will apply for the entire pass.

Refunds are not allowed on part-used passes.
